Freelance filmmaker

As a filmmaker residing in the centre of Melbourne, I’m always meeting new creatives and like-minded people who are keen to collaborate on a new project. I make it my mission to always keep an eye open for local talent to work with. In saying that, I will only ever work with someone who has worked with someone I know in the past. I have been burned too many times while working as a filmmaker. It’s tough because sometimes you just want to give all these new up-and-coming creatives a shot in the industry, but so many of them take advantage of it. It’s like they think they no longer need to try now that they have a foot in.

I think I’m a bit over working with independent filmmakers. At least for now. I think this year I’m going to make a promise to myself to only work with a reliable video production company. Melbourne has all these cowboys who think they’re the next big thing in video production when they’re really not. Now, I only work with the best of the best. I want every bit of my next production to run smoothly. The best way to do this is to start from the top. My new motto is to hire the best producers. If you hire the best producers, they will have the contacts to the best filmmakers. By working with the best filmmakers, I will then be able to build a contact list of the best post production services near me. I have total confidence that this is the correct way for me to move forward as a filmmaker. No more taking advantage of mates rates opportunities either as it only gets you in trouble.

Hiring post production services has been one of the things I’ve struggled with the most. There are so many people out there who think they can do the best edits and the best sound design. They couldn’t be more wrong. I can’t wait to finally work with experts.
